 Orlando Deavila Pertuz is a researcher at the International Institute of Caribbean Studies in the Universidad de Cartagena (Colombia). He is currently working on a manuscript tentatively titled The Colors of Paradise: Race and Tourism Development in Cartagena which seeks to analyze the place of race within the spatial politics of tourism development following the mid-twentieth century. He earned a PhD in History at the University of Connecticut. His work has garnered support from the Institute of Latina/o, Caribbean, and Latin American Studies at the University of Connecticut, the Observatorio del Caribe Colombiano, and the Instituto Francés de Estudios Andinos.
