 Matti Steinitz is coordinator of the Black Americas Network and researcher at the Center for InterAmerican Studies (Bielefeld University) with a focus on practices of hemispheric Black transnationalism between the Caribbean, North and Afro-Latin America, a subject he has published on in several edited volumes and in the forthcoming The Black Scholar special issue on “Post-Soul Afro-Latinidades”. He presented his dissertation thesis on “Soul Music and the Rise of Black Power in Afro-Latin America: Hemispheric Movements and Sounds between Spanish Harlem, Rio and Panama” (DeGruyter, 2022) at the ALARI Dissertation Workshop in 2018. Currently, he is editing an anthology on "Black Power in Hemispheric Perspective" and curating the symposium/festival #hiphophavanaberlin, which is scheduled to take place in July 2022 and will feature a series of performances and presentations by protagonists of the Havana and Berlin hip-hop scenes, Black movement activists, and African Diaspora scholars.
