Martina Thorne holds a J.D. and a B.A. in Law and Political Science from Universidad de San Martín de Porres (Lima, Peru) and M.L.S. and an M.Sc. from Georgetown University. She is a PhD. Student in the Department of Spanish and Portuguese at Georgetown University. Her research focuses on the emergence of decolonial thought, the practice of epistemic violence, and environmental humanities. She also studies urban art made by indigenous, mestizo, and black artists to express their identity and to contest structural inequality. She is currently a Fellow in the Gender and Justice Initiative at Georgetown University working on her project “Gender and Social Justice in Literature: Decolonizing and Challenging the Latin American Literary Canon.” She is the recipient of the 2022 Cosmos Scholarship and the “Joan Ridder Challinor Meritorious Award for Overall Excellence” for her project, “The Birth of Ornithology and the Production of Science in the New World.”
