Henrique Yagui Takahashi

Henrique Yagui Takahashi is a PhD student of Latin American Cultural and Literary Studies at The Ohio State University. He obtained his B.A. in Social Sciences and M.A. in Sociology at the Federal University of São Carlos in Brazil. His research focuses on the diasporic experiences between Afro-descendants and Asian descendants in Peru and Brazil. In his current project entitled “Racial Entanglements: Orientalism & Anti-Blackness in Brazil,” examines the “Bairro da Liberdade'' [Neighborhood of Liberty] in São Paulo city as a microcosm of the myth of racial democracy, where Afro-Brazilian memory was extinguished for the sake of the consolidation of an Asian 'foreign' memory.
