Eduarda Lira de Araujo

Eduarda Lira de Araujo is a doctoral student at Harvard University’s Department of African and African American Studies with a secondary field in History. Her research focuses on the social history of urban Rio de Janeiro in the 19th Century. A student affiliate of the Afro-Latin American Research Institute at the Hutchins Center, Eduarda is particularly interested in understanding how Africans and Afro-descendants have worked to transform and appropriate the city by ascribing it with meaning. Originally from the west zone of Rio de Janeiro, she has earned her undergraduate degree in Africana Studies from Brown University (2015), where her studies focused on critical theory and racial politics in Brazil.
