Alfredo Rivera
Alfredo Rivera, Ph.D., is Assistant Professor of Art History at Grinnell College, Iowa, teaching modern and contemporary architecture and urbanism, as well as the arts of the Americas. Their research focuses on the intersection of art, architecture, and visual media, and they are currently working on a monograph regarding 1960s Cuba. Rivera also works on curatorial and performative projects centered on Caribbean art and visual culture or queer performance, including: “The Elusive Master: Emmanuel Merisier, from Haiti to beyond” (Little Haiti Cultural Complex, Miami, 2018- 2019), “Tidal Rage: Drag en la Frontera” (Perèz Art Museum-Miami with Creative Time, 2018), and “Edouard Duval-Carrié: Metamorphosis” (Museum of Contemporary Art-North Miami, 2017). Rivera is founder and co-leader of the Haitian Arts Digital Crossroads project, a collaboration between the Waterloo Center for the Arts and Grinnell College Libraries to build an image database and digital resources for Haitian art and visual culture.
